Stuffed Pizza Rolls Recipe (1)

We’re all about making things quick and easy for dinner, and these stuffed pizza rolls are no different. With just a few ingredients, you’ll have a fun new twist on your classic “pizza night” meal – perfect for a party or for a weeknight dinner.

My whole familylovespizza, so I knew these would be a home run with all of them – the kids AND my husband. At the end of a long week, it was the perfect ending with a big glass of root beer (thanks to my pregnancy cravings!).

What you need to make stuffed pizza rolls:

You only need a few ingredients to make these pizza rolls: refrigerated pizza crust, shredded mozzarella cheese, toppings (we used mini pepperoni slices), and marinara sauce for dipping.

You can use any type of fillings you’d like. Ham and pineapple, sausage, chopped veggies, or just leave them with plain cheese. If you don’t have any shredded mozzarella, you could use cubed cheese, too.

We also love to top these pizza rolls with brushed olive oil or butter and a mixture of Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and grated Parmesan cheese.

If you have a favorite homemade pizza crust recipe, you could use that, too (we just used pre-made crust to save us some time).

How to make stuffed pizza rolls:

Stuffed Pizza Rolls Recipe (4)

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Unroll your pizza dough onto a lightly floured surface. Pat or roll the dough so it’s about 12 x 24 inches. Cut it into 24 squares with a pizza cutter.

Stuffed Pizza Rolls Recipe (5)

Place cheese and desired toppings on each square. (Do not add marinara sauce, it’s for dipping after they are cooked.) After adding toppings to each dough square, carefully lift up each square and wrap the dough around the toppings. Pinch to make sure each ball is sealed shut and then place them seam side down on a lightly sprayed pie pan or square pan.

Stuffed Pizza Rolls Recipe (6)

Brush the tops of the dough balls with olive oil.

In a small bowl, mix together garlic powder, Italian seasoning and Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle the mixture on top of the brushed rolls.
Cook for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top. Keep an eye on them so they don’t overcook. Serve warm with warmed marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

Make ahead of time:

If you know you have a busy night ahead of you, you could prepare the stuffed rolls (all the way to the brushed with oil and seasonings) and refrigerate them, covered, until you’re ready to cook them.

Ingredients

  • 13.8 ounces refrigerated pizza dough 1 package
  • cups shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup mini pepperonis
  • ½ cup diced cooked ham
  • 4 ounces sliced mushrooms 1 can
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 Tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
  • cups marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

  • Unroll your pizza dough onto a lightly floured surface. Pat or roll the dough so it’s about 8 x 12 inches. Cut it into 24 squares with a pizza cutter.

  • Place cheese and desired toppings on each square. (Do not add marinara sauce, it's for dipping after they are cooked)

  • After adding toppings to each dough square, carefully lift up each square and wrap the dough around the toppings.

  • Pinch to make sure each ball is sealed shut and then place them seam side down on a lightly sprayed pie pan or square pan.

  • Brush the tops of the dough balls with olive oil.

  • Sprinkle with the garlic, Italian seasoning and Parmesan cheese (I mixed all of these together and then sprinkled on top).

  • Cook for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top. Keep an eye on them so they don't overcook. Serve warm with warmed marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • You can also brush the tops of each pizza roll with melted butter instead of olive oil. Both work great. You can add any toppings of your choice in these pizza rolls. We used pepperoni, ham, and olives.

  7. Christie says:

I do something very similar but I use frozen already-cooked meatballs that have been defrosted. I separate biscuit dough (8 biscuits creates 16 balls) and put a meatball and a little bit of cheese into each one. You only need to cook them long enough to cook the biscuits. YUMMY!

  8. Tanna says:

Just made these for lunch today except I used homemade pizza dough. Very good!

  9. deltasierra says:

  14. Jess says:

Tried this tonight with "1 roll of pizza dough" and it did not make 24 squares no matter how hard I tried! Only got about 10. Def. not as easy as it sounds :( dough is really hard to pull up and not spill toppings everywhere... it's in the oven now so hopefully the taste will be the redeeming factor

  15. Kristen Turner says:

These are soooo good! I was craving pizza hut's stuffed crust pizza and decided to make these instead. I used homemade pizza dough and homemade pizza sauce for dipping. All I put inside mine was a large chunk of mozzarella. They were so cheasy and gooey and delicious! Definitely one of my new fav recipes...ahh and yesterday we made your chili's copycat salsa which was also a huge hit. Thanks!!

  16. jennerationnext says:

Just made these tonight. The recipe was shared on the Kitchn Blog.

  17. megan says:

  18. Sam & Chey says:

OMG> Love this! I think I might try this idea with basil pesto, sundried tomatoes and feta/goat cheese...DROOL

  19. kdwyer says:

I had the same problem.. the dough was awful

  20. moore-love says:

LOVED THESE!!! thanks for the recipe :)

  21. kim says:

Root beer, huh. I thought I was the only with that craving. With both of my girls, but not my son, I craved root beer. Especially root beer floats. There is probably a scientific reason for that!

  22. Kelex says:

Made these tonight for dinner, with a couple changes. Apparently I like to over-stuff mine, cause I had a hard time getting them to close. So I did them like ravioli! That worked out perfectly, and they came out delicious. I also used ground chicken instead of pepperoni, and when I browned the chicken, I used the same italian spice mix in with the chicken. Gave it a little extra texture, yum!

I'd really recommend two rolls of dough, and make them like ravioli instead of rolls, because it's so much easier to handle that way. Can't wait to try it with pepperoni and bacon!

  23. Cece says:

Secret to dough perfection is canned buttermilk biscuits brushed with egg and seasoned. However, I've only made them with turkey pepperoni and colby jack cheese, no pineapple or anything else juicy. I always bake them at the biscuit temperature on an aluminum covered cookie sheet until golden brown.

  24. Nikkie says:

I've made these for my husband multiple times and he loves them! I'm going to do a weekly meal planning post on my blog soon and this will be one of the featured recipes I will link to if that's okay!

  25. Carly says:

These sound yummy! I want to make them for a New Year's Eve party tonight. Do you think If I pre-make the balls and stick them in the fridge then bake them at the party, would they still turn out the same?
