Syntax

change self-unit to { unit-id | auto-numbering }

View

System view

Parameters

unit-id: Changesthe unit ID of the current switch to a specified value which is in the range of1 to 8.

auto-numbering: Changes the numbering mode of unit ID onthe current switch to automaticnumbering mode.

Description

Use the change self-unit command tochange the unit ID of the current switch. If a user telnets to an IRF fabric, only the switch connecting with the network of the telnet user responds to thetelnet request, and this switch is the current switch. You can use the displayirf-fabric command to identify which device is the current device in an IRFfabric.

When you change the unit ID of the currentswitch, note the following:

lIf the modified unit ID is not used in the IRFfabric, the system sets its priority to 5 and saves it in the Flash memory ofthe current switch.

lIf the modified unit ID is being used, thesystem prompts you to confirm if you really want to change the unit ID. If youchoose to change it, the existing unit ID is replaced and the priority is setto 5. The original device which uses this unit ID will be auto-numbered again. Thenyou can use the fabric save-unit-id command to save the modified unit IDinto the Flash memory of the current switch.

lIf auto-numbering is selected, the systemsets the unit priority to 10. You can use the fabric save-unit-idcommand to save the modified unit ID into the Flash memory of the currentswitch.

By default, the unit ID of a switch that belongsto no IRF fabric is 1. After a switch is added to an IRF fabric, it isautomatically numbered through FTM function.

Support - 29-IRF Fabric Command (1)

lIf you do not bring up the fabric port, youcannot change the unit ID of a switch.

lAfter the unit ID of a device is changed, the unitID-related information of this device in the configuration file of the fabric willbe upgraded automatically. If the unit ID of a device changes from 2 to 4, the portdescription of this device in the configuration file automatically changes from2/0/x to 4/0/x.

Parameters

unit-id1: Currentunit ID.

unit-id2: Newunit ID.

auto-numbering: Changes the numberingmode of unit ID on a specified switch (not the current switch) to automatic numbering mode.

Description

Use the change unit-id command to configurethe unit ID of a specified switch in an IRF fabric to a new value. By default, whena switch is added to an IRF fabric, it uses the automatically assigned unit ID.

When you change the unit ID of a switch inan IRF fabric, note the following:

lIf the modified unit ID of the switch is not usedin the fabric, the system sets its priority to 5 and saves it in the Flashmemory of the switch.

lIf the modified unit ID is being used, thesystem prompts you to confirm if you really want to change the unit ID. If youchoose to change it, the existing unit ID is replaced and the priority is setto 5. The original device which uses this unit ID will be auto-numbered again. Thenyou can use the fabric save-unit-id command to save the modified unit IDinto the Flash memory of the switch.

lIf auto-numbering is selected, the systemreserves the unit ID and sets the unit priority to 10. You can use the fabricsave-unit-id command to save the modified unit ID into the Flash memory ofthe switch.

Support - 29-IRF Fabric Command (2)

lUnit IDs in an IRF fabric are not alwaysarranged in order of 1 to 8.

lUnit IDs in an IRF fabric can be inconsecutive.

lAfter the unit ID of a device is changed, theunit ID-related information of this device in the configuration file of thefabric will be upgraded automatically. If the unit ID of a device changes from2 to 4, the port description of this device in the configuration fileautomatically changes from 2/0/x to 4/0/x.

View

System view

Parameters

None

Description

Use the fabric member-auto-updatesoftware enable command to enable the IRF automatic fabric function for aswitch.

Use the undo fabricmember-auto-update software enable command to disable the IRF automaticfabric function for a switch.

By default, the IRF automatic fabricfunction for a switch is disabled.

H3C S3600 series switches provide the IRFautomatic fabric function, which enables a candidate switch to automaticallydownload the software and change the fabric name in case that the softwareversion and fabric name of the candidate device and that of the device in thefabric are different, thus reducing the manual maintenance workload.

Support - 29-IRF Fabric Command (3)

lYou need to enable the IRF automatic fabricfunction on all the devices including the candidate switch in the fabric toenable the candidate switch to download software and discovery neighbors andthus be added to the fabric normally.

lIf the candidate switch is going to downloadsoftware from a unit in an IRF fabric, you are recommended to set the ID of theunit to 1 to make the candidate switch download the software of correctversion.

lBefore configuring the IRF automatic fabricfunction, make sure that the candidate switch has enough Flash space todownload the software.

lAfter you configure the IRF automatic fabricfunction on Slave, execute the save command to save the configurationsas soon as possible. Otherwise, the device may synchronize the configurationsfrom Master and restart repeatedly because the configurations on the device arelost after the device automatically downloads the software and restarts.

fabric-port enable

Syntax

fabric-port interface-type interface-numberenable

undo fabric-port interface-type interface-numberenable

View

System view

Parameters

interface-typeinterface-number: Type and port number of a fabricport. On an S3600 series Ethernet switch, only four GigabitEthernet ports canbe configured as fabric ports: GigabitEthernet 1/1/1, GigabitEthernet 1/1/2,GigabitEthernet 1/1/3, and GigabitEthernet 1/1/4.

Description

Use the fabric-portenable command to configure a specified port as a fabric port.

Use the undofabric-port enable command to disable the fabric port function for a port. Whenthe last fabric port on a switch is disabled, the fabric function is disabled globally.

The four ports on an S3600 series Ethernetswitch fall into two groups according to their port numbers:

lGigabitEthernet 1/1/1 and GigabitEthernet 1/1/2form the first group.

lGigabitEthernet 1/1/3 and GigabitEthernet 1/1/4form the second group.

Only one group of ports can be configuredas fabric ports at a time. Given a group, either GigabitEthernet 1/1/1 orGigabitEthernet 1/1/3 can be configured as the left fabric port, and eitherGigabitEthernet 1/1/2 or GigabitEthernet 1/1/4 can be configured as the rightfabric port.

Support - 29-IRF Fabric Command (4)

lEstablishing an IRF system requires a highconsistency of the configuration of each device. Hence, before you bring up thefabric port, do not perform any configuration for the port, and do not enablesome functions that affect the IRF (such as TACACS and VLAN-VPN) for otherports or globally. Otherwise, you cannot bring up the fabric port. For detailedrestrictions, refer to the error information output by devices.

lWhen you have brought up fabric port functionfor a fabric port group, if you need to change the fabric port group, you mustdisable the fabric function of the current fabric port group before you executethe enable command on another group. Otherwise, the system will prompt that thecurrent fabric port group is in use, you cannot change the fabric port group.
